In this episode, I bring on a close friend of mine, Lindsey Leaverton, to share her story with my MoMa family.
Lindsey battled her truth as a gay woman as she traveled the world as a well-known Christian singer/song writer. When she made the decision to own her truth and come out, she experienced significant trauma after enduring rejection from the church, falling "out of grace" and out of the spotlight as her music career seemed to end, enduring conversion therapy, and eventually finding herself asking the Universe for help as she picked up the pieces and moved forward.
Lindsey's story is full of anguish, hope, love, and understanding as she's stepped into the bad ass she is today—a wife, mother, musician, wealth manager, public speaker, and soon-to-be author.
We laugh and we cry, so grab your drink of choice and tune into today's episode.
About Lindsey Kane Leaverton
Lindsey Kane Leaverton is an Austin-based wealth management strategist currently
serving as the Director of Wealth Management Services at The Miura Group. A native Texan, Lindsey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University. Upon graduation she spent 5 years as the Executive Director of a local non-profit while pursuing a nationally successful career as a professional touring recording artist and motivational speaker. Ready for a change from the arduous life of traveling, Lindsey’s passion for helping others through servant leadership led her into the financial services industry in 2010. She began her banking career serving clients as a Personal Banker, Business Banker, and eventually a Branch Manager. In August of 2012, the very same month her twins were born (!), Lindsey joined BB&T Bank where she earned the prestigious Sterling Award. In 2014, Lindsey was given the honor of serving as Austin’s first Private/Wealth Advisor for BB&T and building the Private Bank from the ground up. In 2016, Lindsey was awarded the National BB&T Sterling Award, selected as a McBee Fellow with AARO, and named a Finalist for the 2016 Austin Under 40 Awards for excellence in community involvement and leadership in the financial services industry. Most recently, the Austin Under 40 Awards once again selected Lindsey as a Finalist and she went on to win the 2017 AU40 Award for Excellence in Financial Services. In addition to her passion for serving clients, Lindsey is also extremely committed to serving her community. She currently serves on the Mayor’s Task Force on Institutional Racism and Systemic Inequity, representing the Financial Sector. At the end of each day, Lindsey believes that her role as Director of Wealth Management Services aligns perfectly with her deep-seated desire to advocate for clients, her unique ability to make the financial complexities of life more comprehendible, and her unwavering commitment to always act in the best interest of the clients. Lindsey holds FINRA Series 7, 63, and 66 financial licenses. On a more personal and exciting level, Lindsey and her wife Bri married in April at a drive-in movie theater in Buda, TX which Jen officiated. The Leavertons live in Cedar Park with their 3 kids, 2 dogs and a hamster named Biscuit. Lindsey has been featured in The New York Times, People Magazine, Time Magazine, Yahoo! Money, and was recently featured on NBC’s The Today Show. When she’s not busy being a financial planning ninja, newlywed, unpaid uber driver for tiny humans, and recovering perfectionist, Lindsey spends time writing her first book which is scheduled for release later this year.
